Cable identification instruments are used to distinguish a specific cable among a bundle of cables during the installation, relocation, maintenance, and fault handling of power cables; they feature accurate identification (dual qualitative and quantitative discrimination), speed, accuracy, simple operation, and a wide range of applications. So, what should be noted when using a live cable identification instrument?
1. If there is grounding or branching in the middle of a live cable, only the part before the grounding or branching point can be identified.
After applying a coupling signal to the cable, if no obvious effective signal is detected with the flexible coil and receiver box, you can move about 3 meters away from the transmitting clamp to avoid signal interference. If there is still no effective signal display, it indicates that the copper shielding layer of the cable has a break point or the grounding at both ends of the cable is unreliable.
At this time, generally check the grounding condition of the cable to be identified. If a break point in the shielding layer is found, you can use a grounding clamp to ground the front and back of the break point separately, and then identify in sections.
2. If the signal is verified at a location about 3 meters from the receiver to the main unit, but there is no signal at the site to be identified, or the signal is very weak and cannot be identified, it indicates that the cable to be identified must have multiple grounding points on the metal outer sheath. In this case, the cable to be identified must be de-energized for sectional identification. At this time, the core wire can be used as a signal channel for identification, that is, grounding the core wire at the beginning and end of the cable for identification.
After turning on the power switch, do not touch the output terminals and exposed metal parts; after turning off the power, wait until the output indicator light is completely off before performing wiring operations to avoid electric shock.
