When Should Voltage Drop Be Considered for Sliding Contact Lines? - Yangzhou Dary
Recommended by Dary Electric
In the power supply industry, when the power supply distance is relatively long, the power supply carrier will generate electrical losses due to its own material and related external factors, which is what people call voltage drop. In real life, voltage drop does have a significant impact. Sliding contact lines are also like this in the power supply of mobile equipment in workshops, where their aluminum and copper conductors also produce voltage drop. What is voltage drop? In simple terms, it is the current loss that occurs when current flows through different transmission media, causing the supplied current to be lower than the actual current of the transmission medium. If the mobile equipment runs over a long distance, causing excessive voltage drop, it will result in low-voltage operation for the required electric drive, and over time, it can damage the equipment. Therefore, under certain conditions, voltage drop needs to be considered for sliding contact lines. So under what circumstances should voltage drop be considered? There are mainly the following aspects.
1. When the power supply equipment is located at a long distance, generally meaning the length is greater than 500 meters, and there are few external power supply points, voltage drop needs to be considered. In this case, it is necessary to calculate the voltage drop based on the conductor material of the transmission medium to see if it is within the specified range. Then improvements should be made. Generally, in this situation, the voltage drop can be avoided by increasing the current of the sliding contact line. Another way is to increase the number of power supply points to reduce voltage drop.
2. Another situation where voltage drop of sliding contact lines needs to be considered is the material. When S and L are the same, different materials have different resistivity. Angle steel, aluminum single-pole sliding contact lines, and copper single-pole safety sliding contact lines have different resistivity. Angle steel sliding contact lines have the highest resistivity, aluminum single-pole sliding contact lines have the second highest, and copper single-pole safety sliding contact lines have the lowest resistivity. If S is too long, the voltage drop loss can be reduced by increasing the current of the sliding contact line, that is, increasing L.
